Ka’lee Matthews is a youth advocate, speaker, and Communications and Public Relations student pursuing her degree at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. She is living proof that your past does not define your future — purpose does.
With lived experience in the foster care system, the juvenile justice system, and surviving domestic violence, Ka’lee has transformed adversity into advocacy. Her work is rooted in healing, leadership, and empowering young people impacted by systems of care.
Ka’lee serves on multiple advisory boards, including the Office of Youth and Community Restoration (OYCR) Advisory Board, where she represents youth voices across Los Angeles County. She is also a member of the Planned Parenthood Advisory Board, where she builds and shares skills in comprehensive sex education, youth leadership, and community outreach. Additionally, she serves on the John Burton Advocates for Youth Advisory Board, engaging in statewide policy and advocacy efforts supporting foster youth and youth experiencing homelessness throughout California.
As a speaker, Ka’lee has shared her story and expertise at institutions including Harvard University, UCLA, and NYU. Through her speaking and advocacy, she challenges systems, sparks meaningful dialogue, and inspires young people—especially girls—to feel seen, heard, and empowered.
Ka’lee has become the leader she once needed, and she continues to use her voice to create pathways for change and opportunity for the next generation.
