Transforming
Together
This summer, we’re inviting you to invest in the programming, advocacy, and support that transforms the lives of women, girls, and trans people most affected by poverty, incarceration, foster care, and the street economy.
Thirty years of fighting for
Care over Cages
Young Women’s Freedom Center has thirty years of experience showing up for young people and creating meaningful change in our lives. This movement for systemic change — for fighting for care over cages — is led for us and by us. For many of us, our expertise comes from lived experience navigating these systems.
We understand the struggle of poverty, the devastation of incarceration, the heartbreak of family separation — but we also understand what happens when we are properly resourced, when we lead with self-determination, and when we have true community.
Real change, by the numbers.
What we're doing here works. As of January, here in our organization's hometown of San Francisco, there was just one girl inside the juvenile hall. Most recently, in Alameda County, we have reached zero girls incarcerated.
When young women and trans youth walk through our doors, they are brought into a community of healing, empowerment, and fellowship where they can feel truly safe — sometimes, for the first time in their lives. We are shifting narratives around systems-impacted youth and families and showing the world that no matter where you come from, you are capable of becoming someone who makes a positive change.
