Karina was born in a small Otomi town in Mexico. Her family migrated to the U.S in 1999 in search of the “American Dream.” She’s spent the most significant years of her life in Richmond, CA. As an undocumented immigrant, Karina has dealt with all the stereotypes and judgments that come with that title. She was raised to be seen–not heard. To be the “ideal non-threatening” immigrant. She struggled to find her voice and identify.
Karina has worked with young people for over 10 years in Richmond, CA. Now working at the Young Women’s Freedom Center in Oakland–she’s excited to continue to support young people in finding their voice.
