Joycelyn is the youngest of her siblings, born and raised in San José, California. Her parents came from El Salvador, a small country in Central America, looking for a better life for her and her siblings. Joycelyn, at an early age, expierenced inequality and discrimination. She saw her own loved ones fight the system and street violence. She experienced how the justice system doesn’t fight as hard for crimes committed against minorities. All these events in her life shaped her and impacted her to fight against the system, to protect those who are forgotten and aren’t fought as hard for. Joycelyn has been part of the Young Women’s Freedom Center family since December 2019 starting as an intern and successfully graduating from the Siblings on The Rise Internship.
